News around the league
The Third National Event of the season known as the “Bag Brawl”, is only a month away. Conference events have been steadily rolling out as players look to sharpen their games. Players hoping to automatically qualify though singles or doubles rank may feel added pressure, as their opportunities to improve those rankings before the World Championships are dwindling. Let’s take a look at the most recent news around the league…..
Mason Morgado and Berklee Pair to finish out the season as Pro Partners
Announced a little over a week ago, Pair and Morgado have decided to finish out the remainder of the 2022 season as pro partners. The change came after Jordan Langworthy, former National Champion, decided to step away from the game to focus on personal matters. Morgado had played the first two ACL National events with McGwire Shepherd. Morgado and Shephard, through the first two Nationals, found themselves near the bottom of Doubles rankings at 115. Could this explain the sudden change? Regardless, this change puts the pressure on all players involved to perform well in singles, as the duo will not be able to finish top 50 as a doubles team, securing their pro status for next year. Morgado currently sits at 157th; Pair sits at 74th, McGwire sits at 86th (top 100 in singles automatically qualify).
Frank Modlin Undergoes Surgery
Frank Modlin underwent his second total hip replacement surgery today. Per, Brenda Modlin’s update, the surgery went well and Frank is now resting and getting ready to recover. The ACL Bag Brawl (3rd National event) is 4 weeks away. Sources say that Austin Schlobohm plans on playing with Modlin as of now. Frank is confident he will be ready for this third National event. A 3-4 week recovery is not impossible…..but a 6-8 week timeline may have been more realistic. Fortunately Modlin and Schlobohm have played solid through the first two National Events and currently sit in 17th place. Pros use their best three finishes out of the first four Nationals for standings/seeding heading into the world Championships. Speedy recovery Frank!!
10 States now allow betting on Cornhole
Draftkings Sportsbook is now up to 10 states that allow betting on cornhole events: TN, PA, AR, OR, NH, CO, WY, MI and IL. The numbers through the first two National events have been impressive and this rookie class has lived up to the hype in terms of depth. It’ll be interesting to see what line, Cornhole Mania’s Singles Champion, Matthew Creekkiller, gets going into the Bag Brawl event as he was “unranked” during his epic run. Matt Guy and Jamie Graham returned to form and will be the heavy favorites once again. Perhaps the most interesting part lies in the head to head type match-ups. Through the first two National events, the Favorites have a record of 14-4-2…excited to see if this trend continues. As always I hop you throw it straight and it’s nothing but 4 baggers from here on out! Later!
