Beginner’s Guide
Interested in betting on the game we love, but not sure how to get started? Never bet before? Don’t understand the lines? No problem!! We got you covered!
The Basics
Positive Money Lines: +100, +250, etc
Indicate how much a team or individual is an underdog
The higher the number, the more likely the team/individual is expected to lose
+200 means if you bet $100 you would win $200
Helpful Equation to figure out your winnings:
100/Positive line = Amount Wagered/Potential Winnings
Example: You wager $25 on Josh Holland (+1200) 100/1200 = 25/X
Cross multiple to get 100x = 30000 (solve for X)
X (your potential winnings) = $300
Negative Money Lines: -110, -300, etc
Negative money lines denote favorite teams/individuals
The Negative amount is also the amount required to bet to win $100
Example: -350 line, you would have to bet $350 to win $100
Helpful Equation to figure out your winnings:
-(-Negative line)/100 = Amount Wagered/Potential Winnings
Example: You wager $40 on Matt Guy (-130) -(-130)/100 = 40/X
Cross Multiply to get 130X = 4000 (Solve for X)
X(your potential winnings) = $30.76
Implied Probability….How Likely are they to win??
Use this formula with Positive Odds:
100/Positive Odds +100
Example: Tanner Halbert (+5000) 100/5000 +100
100/5100 =.019 or 1.9% chance to win
Use this Formula with Negative Odds:
-(Negative Odds) / -(Negative Odds) + 100
Example: Hissner/Henderson (-120) -(-120) / -(-120) + 100
120 / 220 = .54 or 54% chance to win
