Power Rankings: Singles
The 2024 American Cornhole League season is winding down as we prepare for the World Championship event held in Rock Hill, SC. This season had been dominated by Rookies through the first Three National events….but then the supplement loving “boomer”, Adam Hissner, emerged victorious at the Final Chase. Who stays in the top 10? What new names make an appearance? Let dive right in!
Adam Hissner:
Adam Hissner “Boomed” his way to the top of the Power Rankings after an impressive run at the Final Chase. The reigning National Champ tends to turn it on late in the season. However, this year, he has been as consistent as they come as Hissner has won his bracket in 3 out of 4 National singles events. Finally getting over the hump and capturing the National title in Canton, Ohio (in dominating fashion) moves him to the number 1 spot.
Jeremiah Ellis
Jeremiah Ellis set the world on fire winning back to back Singles Titles to start off the season. Since then, the rookie has cooled off a bit finishing 5th and 3rd in his bracket at the Bag Brawl and Final Chase. Currently ranked number 1 in the ACL based on points, Jeremiah will be the favorite to win heading into the World Championships. While I wouldn’t bet my life savings on him…a World Championship title would be a fitting end for an already elite season.
Ryan Traiteur
Ryan Traiteur isn’t just playing cornhole; he’s performing a symphony of perfectly placed throws. This rookie followed up his First National win (Bag Brawl) with a 2nd place bracket finish at the recent Final Chase event. He has the type of game that always seems to keep him in the mix…including the ROY award.
Jacob Trzcienski
Prior to this season, Trcienski was a known force in the doubles events. This season he is proving he is a problem in singles events too. One of the hottest players in the country right now, Trzcienski won a key head to head match vs Erick Davis in the semifinals of the Final Chase event, where he ultimately fell to Adam Hissner. Trzcienski is a passionate player who makes his opponent beat him. He is one player most pros will want to avoid in the World Championship brackets.
Erick Davis
Erick Davis wins his bracket at the Final Chase in the “first to 21” format. Cornhole fans have been waiting for the talented Davis to emerge as a perennial National powerhouse in singles…but we just hadn’t seen it yet. Although it is not my favorite format, Davis has excelled in Round limited matches as he has taken home TWO pro shootout events…. he knows how to win. The World Championships would be a nice place for a Singles title run to begin.
Alex Rawls
When you talk about consistency in the pro field…you just won’t find another guy like Rawls. Another standard year for Rawls as he currently sits 7th overall in points. He just always seem to be in it at the end of every tournament. While this year could be considered a “down year” compared to his two previous seasons…..his place in the Top 10 is safe.
Gavin Cano
Gavin Cano started off the season red hot and at one point was as high as 2nd on my Power Ranking list. He has come back to earth a bit the last two events, but the dude is just really good. Cano has won 75.4% of his pro singles matches which is 3rd best among all pro players. He hasn’t found that elusive first win in Singles yet…but the law of averages would tell us his time will come soon.
Tony Smith
If this was an article about rankings….Smith would be left out this time. But this is power rankings damnit and Tony Smith is still a Top 10 player without a doubt. Currently ranked 18th in the Country, “Big Tone” has been “ok”. Coming off an MVP season where he made seemingly every broadcast, expectations were at an all-time high. Rounding his season off with a World Championship title would serve as an excellent reminder to any doubters.
Braydon Wilson
Braydon has had one hell of a Rookie season. Had it not been for Traiteur or Ellis, Wilson would be a certain lock for ROY. This young gun is fun to watch and plays with a level of passion and maturity far beyond his years. He is a force on the boards right now and at this point a Singles title would not surprise anyone.
Devon Harbaugh
The 10 spot…there were several names I considered at this spot. Recency bias is a thing, so Harbaugh gets the nod this time. Harbaugh is one of the most talented throwers of a bag in the ACL and if you asked his peers….they would agree. Harbaugh has just been unable to go the distance. He won his bracket at the Final Chase, but fell to the eventual champion (Hissner) and if we are being honest…he didn’t have his best stuff. Heading into Worlds, after his last broadcast performance, I won’t be picking him to win. But I have looked dumb before….
Honorable Mention:
Jamie Graham
It feels weird not having Graham in the top 10. Currently sitting 15th in pro standings, Graham’s season has been up and down. While he posted two solid performances at the Bag Brawl (2nd in bracket) and Cornhole Mania (2nd overall), his recent 11th place bracket finish leaves much to deisre. Jamie will be the first to remind us that he has a pretty strong track record at the World Championships where he has won singles TWICE, including last season. Although he is outside the current top 10…it would just be dumb to count him out.
So there we have it. An updated Power Ranking with some new faces in the mix. The constant change among the top is a testament to the level of skill we are seeing across the pro division. We are looking forward to seeing how this season wraps up! Drop your comments below!
