Power Rankings: Singles
The American Cornhole League (ACL) season continues to provide exciting finishes as they wrapped up their “Bag Brawl” event (National #3). The opportunity for the first female winner of a Pro National event fell short, but did Cheyenne do enough to move herself up in the Power rankings? Ryan Traiteur swept the Bag brawl in Singles, but does he deserve the number 1 spot?? What about Trey Burchfield reminding people he isn’t just a “doubles guy”.
There have been some movements in the Power Rankings so let’s take a look who I have among the top:
1. Jeremiah Ellis
Ellis leads the pack despite finishing 5th in his bracket at the Bag Brawl. Even with this finish, you just cannot leave out the fact that he won back to back National Championships. Prior to National #3, Ellis was running away with the MVP and ROY awards. Does he hold on to them both?? Another solid finish at the “Final Chase” could just lock it up for the “Boogieman”
2. Ryan Traiteur
Heading into the 2024 ACL Pro season, there were few, if any, players who had as much hype as Traiteur. Winning open events, he cemented his place among the Big Dogs before the real season began. He was knocking on the door at National #1 and #2, however we finally saw him put it all together at the “Bag Brawl”, where he won Pro Singles and the Pro Shootout. This epic performance catapulted him back into the MVP and ROY race. With another solid showing, the awards ceremony could get interesting. It's looking like a 2-man race…for now.
3. Gavin Cano
Cano is always in contention. Despite a 9th place finish in his last bracket, his 2nd place in the shootout shows he is on the cusp of breaking through, again. His consistent presence in the top ranks speaks volumes about his resilience and skill. It seems like only a matter of time before we see him finish on top.
4. Tony Smith
Ranked 13th, the reigning MVP Tony Smith is still performing at a high level. His previous accolades and current form ensure he remains a top contender. Smith's experience and ability to hit all the shots, keep him in the conversation for the top spots.
5. Trey Burchfield
Burchfield, tied with Jamie Graham at 19 titles, recently made a finals appearance, boosting his ranking. Currently sitting at 6th overall in the pro standings, his recent performance has shown he's still one of the elite players in the league.
6. Jamie Graham
Graham's strong performances, including a 2nd place finish in his bracket at the Bag Brawl and 2nd overall at National 2, highlight his prowess. Currently ranked 16th, the Two Time World champion, Graham, continues to be a consistent threat in every tournament.
7. Alex Rawls
Although Rawls recently lost to Burchfield on the big stage, his skill and competitive nature keep him in the top ten. He remains a player to watch, with the ability to rise quickly through the ranks. On any given day Alex can be the best player in the building. His spot in the top ten is safe.
8. Logan Chamberlain
Chamberlain's impressive 2nd place finishes in both the shootout and the standard events remind me of Kaleb Batson’s season just a year ago (without the 3 straight doubles championships). His rise in the rankings showcases his growing skill and potential. I don’t think we can consider him just a “doubles guy” anymore.
9. Braydon Wilson
Sitting at 7th overall in the pro standings, Wilson has had an impressive rookie campaign. With two broadcast appearances and winning his bracket in his first National, Wilson, despite being the youngest pro, has quickly established himself as a top player in the American Cornhole league.
10. Adam Hissner
Hissner's ability to win his bracket at the first two Nationals cannot be overlooked. While other players may have stronger recent showings, Hissner's consistency and the tendency to make late year runs, earns him a spot in the top ten.
Honorable Mentions:
Erick Davis
Davis has also had notable performances, including winning a pro shootout, finishing 2nd in his bracket at Cornhole Mania and 4th in his bracket at the kickoff. His recent play has been great, but I just have a hard time putting him ahead of individuals who have won their brackets in non-shootout pro events. Cornhole fans know how talented Davis is. Fingers crossed he puts it all together one day
Devon Harbaugh
Is there a more talented player in the game today without a National Singles title? Harbaugh is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in the game. He is coming off back to back ACL open single’s titles. A guy that has all the shot types…just hasn’t had the stars align at Nationals….yet.
