News around the league

Here we are. April is quickly coming to a close. Here in Ohio we have had all 4 seasons in the last week and I still question why the Hell I live here. Anyways, the ACL season is well underway and the Next National Event is just a little over a week away! As we mentally prepare, let’s take a look at the most recent news around the league!

Jimmy Youmans reaches perfection

This past weekend, ACL Pro Jimmy Youmans completed the first perfect season, by maxing out his open points. This is the first time a player has accomplished this feat since the pro and advanced levels have been split. In 2018, Cody Henderson had a perfect season, but at that time National events were still open to the public.  Youmans states, “I realized I could get a perfect season once I won my Singles bracket at an Open event.”  When asked if he feels this accomplishment would propel him forward the rest of the year, Jimmy responded, “it has definitely given me extra confidence going into the rest of the season.” The question remains, how rare will this feat be going forward? Will this be yearly occurrence for players? Or did Jimmy pull of something we might not see again for several years to come?!?!

Cheyenne Renner ties Christine Papcke for most Women’s titles

Cheyenne solidified her young “Hall of Fame” worthy career this past weekend where she won the Women’s singles event at the RI open. This win, being her 9th overall Women’s division title, tied her with ACL great Christine Papcke, who at one time was widely regarded as the best female player on the planet. Renner stated, “I had no idea I was even close to tying for that, so when I saw the post from Trey I was very excited!” Cheyenne is thrilled to be in this position in the record books, but won’t stop there as she noted, “I am pushing myself every single day to be one of the best players, not just the best female player.” When asked what she would tell young female players who aspire to be at her level, Renner remarked, “Stay determined and motivated. Never Give Up. It took me a long time to be the player I am now, so never give up on the things you want!” With several months left in the season, Cheyenne will have plenty of opportunities to make the title of “Winningest Female” her own.

American Cornhole League Video Game Release date delayed

In April of 2021, the ACL announced a partnership with FarSight Studios to develop an officially licensed ACL video game. The game, which was originally slated to be released in the Fall of 2021, will be available for all major consoles. The Fall of 2021 is a thing of the past and most recently the new time-frame points to “Mid-July” as the next release date. According to a post made by Trey Ryder on April 14th, 2022, the official trailer featuring Matt Guy and Cheyenne Renner gameplay should be expected this week. Although further delays are disappointing, the trailer has the potential to make or break the hype. Gone are the days of “Target Toss Pro: Bags” style games. Consumers will expect realistic game-play and graphics that are up to 2022 standards.

Ultra Cornhole Signs Jordan Camba

Jordan Camba found himself in the middle of a polarizing off season story where he ultimately was suspended from participating in ACL pro events for the 2021-2022 season. Regardless of his pro status, Camba has continued to demonstrate his skills on the board as he has had several successful campaigns in Regional events. Previously an Allcornhole sponsored player, Camba decided signing with Ultra was the best move going forward. “I have felt the most comfortable throwing the Vipers with Tanner (Halbert) in doubles. At the End of the day I feel confidence is the key to playing well.” Camba, who had partnered with Alpha Bags early in the season had difficulty getting comfortable with their bags, “I had No confidence throwing Alphas…I wanted to start winning and throwing well and I wasn’t able to do that with Alpha.” Jordan hopes to turn this into a full time sponsorship for next season when he plans on reapplying for ACL pro status.
